Sharon M. Owens served as Vice President of CenterPoint Energy’s Corporate Community Relations Department, where she oversaw the company’s corporate giving, and she continues to maintain a well-established professional relationship with key leaders and members of the business community, nonprofit agencies, schools and elected officials. Sharon joined the company in 1977 and became one of the most respected corporate figures in Houston’s charitable community before retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. Sharon is currently active on several professional and civic boards, including the Houston Downtown Management District Board, Precinct 1 Street Olympics, Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corp, The Ensemble Theatre, River Oaks Women’s Breakfast Club, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Huffington Center on Aging, and the Missouri City Chapter of Links where she serves as President. In 2007, Sharon was featured in Who’s Who in Black Houston and has been recognized by Leadership Houston as one of their Top 25 Leaders. She is a recipient of the “Spirit of Anne Morrow Lindbergh” award from the Huffington Center on Aging and has been honored as a Woman of Distinction by Channel 13 and Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and by Texas Executive Women as a “Woman on the Move.” Sharon grew up in San Antonio and received degrees from St. Phillip’s Jr. College and Tennessee State University (with honors). She has the ability and intuition to assess needs in the community and match the right people with the right causes to achieve the right results. Over the years, Sharon has chaired or co-chaired many fundraisers which have contributed over $2 million dollars to the community, including the Houston Hospice Butterfly Luncheon, the Children’s Defense Fund “Beat the Odds” Luncheon, Houston Museum of African American Culture Gala, UH Women’s Studies Luncheon, and the Planned Parenthood Political Action Luncheon. Sharon is co-owner of La Maison in Midtown, which was recently selected by BedandBreakfast.com as one of the Top 10 new urban bed-and-breakfast inns in the world. She is married to Douglas Owens and is looking forward to her new career as an owner/entrepreneur, continuing her aspiration to make a difference in Houston.
Chao-Chiung (C.C.) Lee is a world-renowned architect who has managed a successful architectural practice since 1983 with offices in Texas & Florida. His strong systematic design method helps clients worldwide with modern design and development challenges. Under C.C.’s leadership, the firm has designed a diverse portfolio, including aviation facilities, higher education, K-12, libraries, health care facilities, housing, multi-purpose service centers, community centers, public park support facilities, convention centers and hospitality. C.C. Lee is also a Feng-Shui Master who has been teaching interactive workshops at Rice University since 1999 as well as many other universities around the world.
His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo is the metropolitan archbishop of Galveston-Houston and pastor to its 2 million-plus Catholics (and the 7.1 million people within the Archdiocese) and 435 priests in 146 parishes and 54 schools spread over 8,880 square miles. His seats are St. Mary Cathedral Basilica in Galveston and the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, and raised with three siblings in Castle Shannon near Pittsburgh, Cardinal DiNardo attended St. Anne grade school and the Jesuit-run Bishop’s Latin school before enrolling in St. Paul Seminary and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He received his master’s degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and degrees of Sacred Theology from both the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Patristic Institute Augustinianum in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Pittsburgh on July 16, 1977 and served as parish pastor, seminary professor, spiritual director and in the chancery. From 1984 to 1991, he worked in Rome as a staff member for the Congregation for Bishops, as director of Villa Stritch (the house for American clergy), and as adjunct professor at the Pontifical North American College. In 1991 he returned to Pittsburgh, serving as pastor to several parishes and again in the chancery. He was appointed coadjutor bishop of Sioux City, Iowa and ordained there as a bishop in October 1997. As his Episcopal motto he adopted: Ave Crux Spes Unica, meaning “Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope.” He succeeded retiring Bishop Lawrence Donald Soens of Sioux City in November of 1998. He was named coadjutor bishop (later coadjutor archbishop) of Galveston-Houston in January 2004 and succeeded Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza on February 28, 2006. On June 29, 2006, he received the pallium from Pope Benedict XVI. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in November of 2007 at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. He was designated the titular Church of Sant’Eusebio in Rome. As a member of the Sacred College, he served as a Cardinal-Elector in the Papal Conclave of 2013, which saw the election of Pope Francis to the See of Peter. In November of the same year, he was elected by his brother bishops as the Vice-President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for a three-year term. Cardinal DiNardo served as President of the USCCB from Nov. 2016 – Nov. 2019. He was a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture, the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, the Pontifical Council for the Economy, and is on the Board of Trustees of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Todd Triggs is responsible for development activities in the Central and Western United States. Mr. Triggs began his career at Camden Property Trust in 1997 and brings over 25 years of experience in real estate development. His primary responsibilities include overseeing all facets of new developments from project inception through occupancy stabilization, including site selection, financial analysis, project feasibility, design and engineering, governmental approvals, and marketing. Triggs has played a major role in completing real estate transactions in excess of $2.1 billion. Triggs is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the National Multi-Housing Council. He is also on the board of Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corporation and a member of the Houston Apartment Association Development Council. Triggs received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Houston Baptist University.
Develop and execute strategy to grow Consumer Lending through the creation of the Dedicated Consumer Real Estate Group. The DCREG is made up of a team of consumer real estate experts that support our 27 banking offices with all Consumer real estate loans which includes in-house portfolio lending as well as conventional mortgage loans. This department performs intake, processing, underwriting, approval and closing functions to support our lending staff in delivering an exceptional customer service experience.
Juanita Causey is a CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) professional and has been an independent Financial Advisor for 29 years. She feels that her greatest accomplishment is the long-term relationships and trust that she has built with her many clients. Juanita’s primary work consists of helping people with their overall Estate and Financial Planning. Since each situation is different, this work may take her in several directions which might include Investment Management, Estate Planning, Tax Planning, Risk Management, Philanthropy, Family and Legacy Planning for multiple generations, Business Succession Planning, ESOPs, Education Planning, Pre and Post Retirement Planning, etc. During an initial interview, Juanita gathers important financial information and discusses the client’s goals and objectives. This enables her to design the most efficient plan for each client to reach their goals. Juanita continues working with each client over the years through regular reviews to keep their investments and plans up-to-date.
One of Juanita’s passions is giving her time, money, and resources to charitable causes. As a board member of NRCDC, her desire is to promote the well-being of others and to help make a better life for people.
Alice B. Otchere is Founder and President, Literacy for Life. Literacy for Life is a non profit organization with a mission to address literacy deficiencies, provide enhanced learning opportunities through supplemental programs in underserved communities. Currently, she is leading the organization’s library constuction project in West Africa, Ghana. Ms. Otchere’s foundational expertise is in Human Resource practices, Executive Coaching and Leadership Development. She has successfully led clients in the design and implementation of regional and national human resource practices. Ms. Otchere’ business experience has allowed her to work in various business organizations in the healthcare industry, academia, and the energy industry. Her knowledge and expertise has created opportunities for her to consult and advise clients in a number of industries. Ms Otchere received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She completed graduate level studies in business at the University of Michigan and received an Executive and Leadership Coaching education and certification from the University of Texas-Dallas. Ms. Otchere is a credentialed coach designated by the International Coaches Federation.

Paul D. Charles

For decades, Mr. Charles has led NRCDC in the development and redevelopment of affordable housing and commercial real estate projects. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He also holds a Master of Business Administration on General Management. Mr. Charles is a registered, licensed engineer in the State of Califormia, where he worked as an engineer and a real estate consultant for a number of years. He has also held positions with large scale master-plan developers, as well as other community based organizations. His affiliations and memberships include: the Community Advisory Board of Comerica Bank and Blue Print Houston, CDC Association of Greater Houston, National Congress for Community Economic Development, Third Ward Redevelpment Council, and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a graduate of the “Advanced Practitioner Program” through the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard Universiy. He has received numerous civic awards, and among them are the Outstanding Young Men of America, the Leadership Award from the American Legion, and he is listed in Who’s Wo Among Executives and Professionals.
